WindTurbines.Net – A Social Network for the Wind Energy Community

By Arthur Markham

There is obviously a lot of support for the wind energy community all around the world. A quick google search of “wind turbine” gives you 5.4 million results! So why not start a social network for it, right?

This is the manifesto of the people behind WindTurbines.Net – aiming to be the first and only social network for wind energy enthusiasts all around the globe; so that they can all share their experiences with the reliable, renewable energy source.

Wind power has been around for more than 5,000 years, used mainly for the propulsion of sailboats and ships. Right now, this ancient power source remains to be one of the most reliable energy sources, especially for high, rural areas wherein wind speeds reach very high values. Although the costs for maintaining home wind turbines are a bit higher than with other energy sources, the long run returns are excellent as there will never ever be a shortage of wind. The site aims to be an effective means of information exchange between wind energy users – sharing tips, solutions and statistics.

One of the most important features of the site is the news feed. The site makes sure that it gives up to date information about the wind energy industry including technological breakthroughs and weather reports. Everything from small wind turbines to the humongous ones are covered, so you wouldn’t be left out with any information.

The site also has a Wind Energy wiki, an online encyclopedia about everything Wind. Since the site is still fairly new, members are encouraged to contribute to the wiki and share information.

Another great feature of the website is that they have education courses for those wanting to learn more about the wind energy industry. What’s even better is that the site offers these courses to members for free, enabling complete neophytes of the subject to have knowledge of it and let them participate with the community.

Other features of the site include a massive directory of websites that are in the web industry and a job search feature that allows companies to post wind-energy related jobs and jobseekers to look for those jobs. Currently the site posts a total of 6, 914 jobs, so wind developers and engineers should really visit it often. Also you can look for sites where you can buy your own small wind turbines for home consumption.

Currently, the site has 303 members, consisting of wind engineers, developers, companies and even small-time owners of home wind turbines – all dedicated to their passion for wind energy.
